Scholarships

Scholarships can make a difference in whether you go to college and where you go. Keep in mind that some schools will reduce your aid if you get a scholarship and there may be taxes to pay.

General Scholarship Advice

FinAid's Guide to Scholarships — Great overview to begin your online scholarship research. It has a candid review of search sites. Check their page on scholarship scams.

Federal Student Aid — Student aid information from the U.S. Department of Education. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is the reason for visiting this site. You may not plan on a Pell grant or a federal loan, but your school may use it to determine need.

Scholarship Search Engines

Enter your information and these sites will try to match you with the right scholarships.

Scholarshipexperts.com — This is the only one with a fee. Check their FAQ page for the advantages. It has two levels of membership starting at $29.95 per year.

Fast Web — One of the largest and most respected free scholarship search sites on the Internet. Determine where you want to go first unless you want to wade through a lot of data.

CareersandColleges.com Scholarship Search — Search for colleges, scholarships and loans.

CollegeBoard.com Scholarship Search — Take a look at 'Paying for College' and their calculator for Expected Family Contribution.

International Scholarships — Find scholarships that will help you study abroad!

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships — The world's largest privately funded international scholarship program that helps students in over 70 countries around the globe.

Truman Scholarship Foundation — Dedicated to helping undergraduate students committed to careers in public service.

Gates Millennium Scholars — Driven to provide outstanding minority students the opportunity to complete an undergraduate education.

Federal Pell Grants — Needs-based federal grants for low-income undergraduate students.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation — A highly competitive scholarship program awarded to civic and community-minded students.

The Collegiate Inventors Competition — Awarding as much as $50,000 to student inventors.
