Calendar

*** Please Note ***

Due to illness, this page is based on the March draft calendar and may not be 100% accurate. It will be updated when more information becomes available.

“We apologise for the inconvenience.”

This page describes our upcoming events. Be sure to check out the SIGnificant notes section!

Unlike the calendar created for the public part of our site, this calendar contains the contact information for each event.

MWW events are organized by members like you. If you don’t see an event that interests you, start one! Just check the monthly calendar for a good date, then send event information to the Editor (calendar@mensaww.org) by the 10th of the month prior to the event. It’s that simple!

Celeste Berg, PhD, principal investigator in the Berg Lab at the University of Washington will present “Crime Scene Investigation: Seattle—How DNA helps forensic scientists catch the bad guys.” In Dr Berg’s lab, she and her research assistants are studying the mechanisms and molecules that control developmental processes leading to major birth defects, which afflict 3% of all newborns. Their goal is to develop diagnostic tools for identifying risks factors and, in the long run, evaluate the efficacy of potential treatments. The Berg Lab uses the fruit fly Drosophila Melanogaster to investigate cell communication and cell migration, two processes critical for development and human disease progression. They are investigating the signaling pathways that pattern the follicular epithelium surrounding the oocyte, as well as the link between these cell fates and the subsequent cell shape changes and movements that reorganize the flat epithelium into two closed tubes.
