Calendar

This page describes our upcoming events. Be sure to check out the SIGnificant notes section!

Unlike the calendar created for the public part of our site, this calendar contains the contact information for each event.

MWW events are organized by members like you. If you don’t see an event that interests you, start one! Just check the monthly calendar for a good date, then send event information to the Editor (calendar@mensaww.org) by the 10th of the month prior to the event. It’s that simple!

Sunday, July 7

2:00 pm – 5:00 pm WoSIG
We warmly invite adults who identify as women to share our lively discussion! Complete confidentiality is required from all participants. Please bring a food/beverage item to share if you are able (especially chocolate). Social Time 1:30, meeting starts at 2:00.
The July Women’s SIG will be at the home of Nancy Tennent, 19062 – 21st Avenue NE in Lake Forest Park, 206-619-1116. Please park in the long driveway or on the street. Two resident cats may or may not make an appearance, but they have certainly hidden cat cooties around the house to annoy the allergic.
Theme: “Gender Equality.” Women were granted the right to vote in my grandmother’s lifetime. We can now own property and become engineers and even go into space. Disney movies proudly feature feminist princesses who fight alongside the menfolk, and shirts proclaiming “Girl Power” are best-sellers at Target. Most of us have men in our lives whom we cherish. But are we equal yet? More than 90% of the victims of sexual assault/harassment are women, and we grow up with this fear looming over us. Many of us were told “with looks like yours, why bother going to college?,” or “girls aren’t good at math.” We’ve had men looking down our shirts and up our skirts all our lives, and fashion still promotes an unrealistic Barbie-doll ideal for how we should look. How have we reconciled these conflicting messages? Do we have trust issues? Are we harboring inaccurate stereotypes?
