Calendar

*** Please Note ***

As things continue to open up, some events will revert to “in-person” while others will remain virtual. All “in person” events require full vaccination.
Check MWW’s Facebook page or website for the latest information.

Unlike the calendar created for the public part of our site, this calendar contains the contact information for each event.

MWW events are organized by members like you. If you don’t see an event that interests you, start one! Just check the monthly calendar for a good date, then send event information to the Editor (calendar@westernwashington.us.mensa.org) by the 10th of the month prior to the event. It’s that simple!

SIGnificant notes

1:30 pm Women’s Bathroom SIG (WoSIG)
We warmly invite adult Mensans (and select Friendsians) who identify as women to share our lively discussion! Complete confidentiality and full vaccination are required from all participants. Please bring a food/beverage item to share if you are able. Social Time 1:30, meeting starts at 2:00.
The October Women’s SIG will be at the home of Nancy Tennant, 19062 – 21st Ave NE in Lake Forest Park, nancytennent@gmail.com or 206-619-1116.
From Nancy: “We are hoping early October will be warm enough to allow a pleasant outdoor meeting, possibly supplemented by my patio heater. Please email or text me to confirm if the weather is questionable at that time, though. Options would be meeting inside, postponing, or returning to Zoom.”
Topic: Happiness or Meaningfulness
Can we have both happy and meaningful lives? Should we want to? Our last discussion about how music and art enrich our lives got me thinking about meaningfulness. I found a study of about 400 adults* on this topic which concluded that happiness and meaningfulness are distinct states which can coexist but can also work against each other. Having enough money to satisfy your needs and wants can make you happy but won’t necessarily give meaning to your life. Happiness was largely present oriented, whereas meaningfulness involved integrating past, present, and future. Happiness was linked to being a taker rather than a giver, and meaningfulness was associated with being a giver rather than a taker.
What do you think? I’m looking forward to another wonderful exchange of ideas!
